I’ve been blogging for around 2 years now and as easy as it was to get my blog set up, designed and filled with information, I had a problem in the first 6 months or so getting traffic. I fully anticipated that I wasn’t going to be seeing large amounts of traffic right away but the truth was that I saw very little in the early stages, far less than I was expecting.

I reached out to a blogger buddy of mine, Mike T Eckhardt, who helped me out massively when it came to driving more traffic to my site and if you are a blogger who wants to increase traffic then here is how to do it.

Patience

Much of gaining traffic is in the planning, you need to spend some time trying to connect with other bloggers in your niche. You also need to spend time contacting influencers on social media who are in your niche too. The key to improving the exposure of your website is to get some valuable link juice back to your site, this can be gained when people talk about your website or place a link of yours on their site. Make friends, help people and reap the rewards.

Social Media Crazy

When it comes to sharing your site on social media, you need to be persistent in your approach. Such is the way of the Facebook algorithm for example, not everyone will be able to see your stuff when you share it so you need to be consistent with your sharing. When sharing your content, you must make sure that it is a very high quality and also that it provides value to the reader.

Design and On-Site Content

Remember that you are not just looking for someone to visit your site one time, you want them to find value in your site and keep coming back time and again. In order to make sure that you get these people on the hook, you need to give them a reason to come back. Make sure that your site is beautifully designed and provides a great amount of content about your chosen subject. Ask yourself what value you would find in the site if you had found it whilst browsing, would you go back to it again and again?

SEO

If you don’t know much about search engine optimization then it’s time to start learning as this is a great tool when it comes to bringing traffic to your site. SEO is about manipulating the search engines so that you appear highly when people search for a particular set of keywords. If for example you have a site about action figures then you can focus on keywords like ‘Star Wars figurines’ and aim to appear on the first page of the search engine when people are looking for these keywords, a great way to bring more traffic to your site.
